Russia is pledging $400 Million to rebuild South Ossetia. On the surface this would appear that Russia is taking responsibility for its actions in Georgia but really it’s not. This just further entrenches Russia in the region. It’s increasing its goodwill among the people of South Ossentia who want to separate themselves from Georgia. I’m also certain that there will be a strong military presence accomplishing the reconstruction. Does anyone remember what happened when Russia was responsible for restoring order and reconstruction in East Germany after WWII?
